Some calls you hate to make in this bussiness

Owner brought this tractor to me because the hyd's did not work all the time. Yep, the filters were plugged. Pulled PTO to take a look and seen parts of thrust washers from diff so I preceded to take tractor apart and found nothing good. Sun gears and planetary gears, all diff parts and ring and pinion all bad. This 1370 will more than likely get to visit a salvage yard. I hate it when this happens, Rod.

Rod, I have no experience with tractors above 50hp. As the coroner in this case, what caused it to die. Abuse, lack of lubrication, a weak point in engineering. Not wanting to put you on the spot. just curious. gobble

yes rod ,, what do you think caused all this to happen? ..got a mechanical oil question concerning jd 303 ,,. I do run hy/tran in my 1070 ,, and I have not changed it yet this yr because I have litened my workload while taking chemo . ,, couple weeks back a hose busted and I lost a gallon or more of fluid,, I recall hearing or reading that you CAN NOt put hy /tran in a 4020 deere p-shift without costing big bux in the long run ( Namely BRAKES Desintegrate ) , but I also read here someplace that you could add 303 to a p -shift CASE with no ill results and or affects , I THINK ?.. I did not have any hytran left, but I had 303 on hand so I added a couple gallons to bring the tranny up to full ,. seems to me on a hot day the pressure guage rides a little higher , and shifting steering , braking and lifting worx fine too ,,,, since then ,the fear keeps sneakin up on me , that there is a slow disintegration perhaps going on in the 1070 because of mixing in 303 .. would you care to comment and OF Course I Can Not Hold you liable ..LOL ,,. But I know you understand the case p -shift far better than me ,..thanx jim

Tom I would have to say all of the above. After 40 yr even well maintained tractors have issues. The rearends of these tractors were never known for their durability. But if operated and maintained properly they could provide many years of trouble free service. I purchased my 1370 17 yr ago with a ring and pinion failure. Fixed it and have not touched it since. Rod.

Hmmm, I really don't know what differences there is between those oils. Have to hope someone more familiar with the products comments, Rod.

I was told once that Hytran is 10w and Hygard is 20w, maybe someone else can confirm or dispel this. Jd does have a better price on Hygard and I have been tempted to switch over.

Yea Rod, those calls are no fun, like we had a 1370, that started out to be what the customer said was a injection miss. We got into it, and it was a basket case( this one had no care at all) so we went through the motor with his approval, he came to get it, paid for the bill, was driving it home, and the transmission locked up! Yep, another bad one, loaded it back up brought back to shop tore it down, it needed the full meal deal. We had it ready about 2 weeks later, he paid the bill smiled and said, she is a good as new and drove it ALL the way home!

Very tempting, but thanks for offer. The 1370 I have here is a late one and yours is early one. If that one has never been updated the sun gears and planetarys will be different. The ring and pinion are different also. Subtle differences as are a few parts in the powershift. Someone hopefully can take you up on that offer. Rod.
