I have a 1954 DC and would like to know what fluids it uses. I know about engine oil. then I believe there is a rearend fluid (90)? and also a transmission fluid. Where can I find a diagram of plugs & drains. Thanks Ckain

As tempting as it is to think that everything you ever wanted to know is at the touch of your fingers on the computer. All the details in the owners manual are not. Bite the bullet and go searching for a DC owners manual. It will be simpler than trying to find it on the www, and, you may never find what you want. jmo gobble ps enjoy that DC workhorse

Here is a couple links to an online service manual. On page 9-10 of the first linl is the one on oil.

DC case

If your DC is a 54, it has live power, both brake pedals on the right,, Eagle hitch, and a separate hydraulic oil supply. The transmission and final drive are common.

The manual below covers earlier models such as my 49. My 52s are different and have two drain plugs to drain the transmission. There is a transmission case ridge in the bottom that goes up and over the brake shaft that goes to the left brake. The second drain plug is behind this ridge and drains transmission oil trapped behind the ridge.

The DC is not sensitive to the transmission oil used. Rain has two entry points to get into the DC transmission--around the steering wheel shaft and around the gear shift lever if the boot is shot or missing. Check for water in the tranny at both drain plugs.

I keep 85W-140 on hand for various gear boxes and to top off anything using heavy oil. 90W or 140 also works okay even mix the three.

The hydraulic supply is at the rear. Any light oil works. I use hyd-tran oil that I keep on hand for my later model tractors in which the transmission and hydraulics are common.

For engine oil in old engines that have crud collected on internal surfaces, I avoid high detergent oil that might loosen chunks of crud and end up in critical areas such as rod and main bearings.
