New Paint for the 411

After great effort of glazing, sanding and 6 coats of high build primer {apply 3 sand apply 3 more and sand} , I was given a tutorial in painting the 411.Clint Sample ,my paint and body guy, nursed me to a skill level that he felt comfortable to turn me loose. 15 minutes and he handed his high dollar paint gun to me . Now do it!. You will be fine. They do not pay these guys enough for that skillset. Got a run in the intake stack. I'll sand that back down with 400 grit and reshoot tomorrow. Four coats of single stage urethane. It looked a little pink when I opened the can, but after the 3rd coat I was convinced I was getting the finish that would work. The paint booth cost $124.90 in plastic and 2x4's,and would gladly pay that again. No bugs on the finish. A newby can sure waste a lot of paint! My dog looked at it ,and gave me this look like, when can I lick it.

Way to go little bro..Dad would be proud. Makes a person feel good when you learn something new! It will make the WHO ride that much nicer!

And always remind those that do not like the way it looks, or you shoulda done this, just don't look then. It my tractor and I could have painted it green if I had wanted to. Looks great, looking forward to seeing it and you in a couple weeks. tom

I will certainly take great care in selecting my next collectable based on the condition of the sheet metal. Although it was straight , it had moderate pitting through out . To add painting and body work to my retirement resume-----I think not, HEE. Yes John, I know Dad would have liked it. Loren made a comment during one of our Barley Pop phone conversations, that paint technology now ,is so far advanced than what it was in earlier years, and we must keep that in perspective. Paint was put on to prevent rust, and primer was not in the equation. Cheers
