51' Case VAC

Hi all....new to forum and would like to get some info....first..the story.

We picked up this 51' Case VAC from a friend of mine who brought it up to me from California....tractor hadn't run in years....did the normal...cleaned the fuel tank, did the carb, new plugs and ignition system....topped off all fluids (did take awhile to find the hydraulic) got it running....engine wise it seemed to run great....clutch is wore out for sure....rear axle leaks like a open faucet..but for the what I needed to do around my property...I figured it would work ok....finally put her to the test with my neighbors brush hog.....it ran the mower just fine....fought with the 3-point the whole time (Eagle II)....then finally realized it was pumping hydraulic in the engine oil...

so here is were we are at now.....Wify has decided she wants something a little newer....and wants me to build the Case for antique tractor pulling....

So...everything aside.....were can one get ahold of a reseal for the drivetrain/axles....and were can I find a detailed description and breakdown of the Eagle II system.....wanting to find out why I fought it so much....and what that little valve on the side of the cylinger canister does

John Saeli on this board can provide your seals
. Include your serial #. He may have your Eagle
hitch info ....

The only way hydraulic oil can enter the engine crankcase is through a defective shaft seal on the hydraulic pump. I too, recommend John Saeli for parts. 1951 was a transition year for some eagle hitch parts like the piston seals which could be the early leather cup or the later different piston with 2 O-rings so it is best to eyeball the parts before you order. Generally other repair parts on the tractor can be identified by serial nr.

If you want a detailed description you probably need to buy a service manual. For a breakdown of component parts, go to the link and select "Hydraulics". All eagle hitch parts are listed there along with variations and the former HP hitch system so you need to have an idea what matches your tractor.

I included a couple of pics to show how simple the system is and a how it can get a little more complicated in the real world. Both pics show the system with the control valve in neutral.

Can you be more specific re fighting the eagle hitch, what are the symptoms? "what that little valve on the side of the cylinger canister does", I really don't know what you are referring to here?

basically...I have to hold the control lever full forward to keep the implement on the ground.....if I don't....it acts like its trying to adjust itself but keeps creeping upward....on my tractor...the big canister under the seat...out of the side by the top has a pipe elbow.....then a valve of some sort....im assuming.....has a piece in the center that turns....square head....trying to figure out what it does

The problem with creeping up is excessive back pressure.

This may be caused by the pressure control valve (pic2 above "B") not returning to the by-pass position (sticking, broken spring, improper valve lash?)when the lever is in the neutral position. Look at the pic, the red line is the oil flow from the pump via the pressure control valve ("B") directly back to the sump when the lever is in the neutral position. There is no pressure being admitted to the lift piston.

More likely it is a restriction in the return system between the depth control unit and the sump, crimped or plugged return tubing, clogged oil filter if your tractor is so equipped, or something that was added to the return system that is restricting the flow. Some VAC have a control unit installed in the hydraulic system to operate remote cylinders like this pic2, do you have that?

I don't know of a canister under the seat in any VAC. Is it piped into the lift hydraulic system? It may be a diverter valve in the pressure side of the system to operate something like a single acting cylinder, not factory should not be connected to the return side of the system.

Can you post pics?
