VAC eagle hitch won't stay up

Never had any trouble with this 51 VAC eagle hitch. Yesterday while cultivating the hitch wouldn't lift the cultivator. oil looked nasty so changed that. still wouldn't lift. If I picked up the draft arms the piston filled with oil and I could stand on them and they held position. Still valve wouldn't raise it properly but drained it fine. I stuck a putty knife between the RH lift arm and the control handle thinking that I might need to get more pressure against the valves. then it raised and seemed fine, but wouldn't lower. Had to turn off the tractor to make that happen (unless the implement was on and then it would lower while running - needed weight). put the two cultivator back on and then it wouldn't raise again unless the control handle was all the way to the rear and it needed to stay there or it would immediately drop. I loosened the case drain line nut to see if oil would flow out of that, but it didn't I didn't try to remove the steel line from the port to see if I am getting blow by past the piston cup.

Any suggestions?

thanks

Jack

My 51 has the opposite problem. It needs weight on it to bring it down.
I am no expert on the EH but here are pictures from my take-apart. Is it possibly that your valve setup needs adjusting?
