Hydraulic Woes

I have a 1950 LA and a 1954 500 with factory hydraulics. I have a Case cylinder with new hoses and new Case ends. On neither tractor will the cylinder extend or retract. I can't find either of my operator;s manuals so I don't know how much Hytran the system takes. The 500 is worse although it acts like it wants to work. Friends say it does not appear to have cavitation. ANy suggestions. We did bleed the hoses.

Can you move the cylinder in and out with the hoses off? I think the 500 takes 3 1/2 gallons of oil. Dipstick for the hydraulics is to the lower left of the pto shaft. If it is the big 500 that is.

Just an outside chance but has the roller chain that drives the pump(s)come loose. Happened to me more than once on the LA's and 930. If the 500 is trying to do its job that wouldn't be the case there.

The level plug on both tractors is a 1/8" pipe plug, just to the left,& below the PTO shaft. Simply fill until it reaches that level. When the cylinder is hooked up, and you move the levers, if the rod does not move, you should hear a slight labor in the engine, or even the relief valve chatter. If you hear nothing, I would suspect pump problems. But, from both tractors? Seems unlikely. I suspect a problem w/ the cylinder.

Well, both were low on fluid, the 500 1 quart and the LA 2. Then the battery on the 500 was dead and I was 12 miles from my others so I couldn't test it and the 500 was hooked to the Graham-Hoeme so I couldn't get the LA close enough to try it.
