Tie rod rubs right tire on 1070

Finally started to give this 1070 some tlc after purchasing last fall. Front end bearings on left front spindle were completely gone due to someone's lack of knowledge what a grease gun is for. Bottom thrust bearing was totally MIA as well too. Spindle was scored bad so instead of putting new needle bearings in I decided to polish up shaft with an air sander & make brass bushings like my 1170 uses. Anyhow, as I was ready to investigate the right side I immediately noticed the tie rod end has been rubbing the tire so my next assumption was if someone had been into this some time ago they probably didn't get the timing marks lined up with the steering arm on the splined shaft but after removing the nut & washer that wasn't the case. Maybe the tie rod end needs replacing or perhaps use a smaller tire? It currently has 11-16's on the front now. Thanks for any future suggestions on how to prevent this rubbing.

On my 1070 with 11.00-16s, it requires the wheels to be turned wrong way around(valves in). with 10.00-16s you can run them valves out.

if one is clearing and the other is not the one rubbing has a twisted spindle,, seen it many times,, make sure the spindle tube stops are still in place as they get sheared off sometimes if some one hits a rut hard with the wheels turned sharp, if this is your issue you need a new spindle to solve the rubbing

Thanks...I never thought about that, but the stops are still there tho. I jacked up right side today & a lot of slop in upper bearing area. I suspect another worn out bearing or none at all. It was a pretty easy job to repair the left side so I may be getting a new spindle after all if its twisted...I hope not.

Thanks. I thought about turning wheels around too, or making a shim plate but the left side is ok here. Either the steering arm is tweaked or the spindle. I'll know more this week.

Maybe one wheel has been replaced and has a different backspace?

Does the problem follow the wheel if you switch sides?

You can lay a straight edge against the rim and measure easily enough with a tape.
