Slowing down a CC

I have a CC that I pull with, and need to slow down the wheel speed some. I can hit 7-8mph in 1st year, and close to 12 mph in 2nd.... 3rd gear is worthless - slip clutch or run out of power... I'd love to slow it down around 30-35% so that I'm not over geared for 3-4mph pace classes. It's a straight CC rear as far as I know - haven't gone tooth counting yet...

Thanks!
Mike

I am going to watch this post. Those numbers sound way too fast for a Case tractor of that vintage gobble

You are right. You need to be a redneck to drive the early ones. There is about 3 sets of bevel gears that determine the speed. I have one like yours on full steel with a cultivator on it. The wheels ate 9 feet wide so the wheels hang half way off the trailer when loaded. Loading it can raise the blood pressure. Turn the engine and count the turns of the belt pulley with the clutch engaged to figure out your gear ratio. Newer ones were slower.

Mph as read off of the agritonics board that shows travel speed going down the track. I have no problem running 6mph classes in first gear. I'm running more than stock rpm to get the top speeds, but holding it down 3mph is difficult, and not much power at such low rpm. I believe the rear is 1934 vintage, but I'll need to double check.

Thanks guys.

it takes some rpm's to get those speeds I would be sourcing a steel flywheel at the same time, I put CC transmission parts into a 40 DC to speed it up, it is not just a bolt in process contrary to what some (who have never done it)will tell you, an nearly DC set before 43 or 44 should go in to slow it down but again some work including fork modification is required

A CC ought to have 38 tooth rear sprockets, your's doesn't have 31 tooth sprockets out of a C does it? 38's would slow it down if it had 31's in it now. 31 tooth sprockets don't extend beyond the rear cover surface, industrials had 26T
