Help, 1070 over heats

I'm in a bit of a pickle, I need my 1070 and it over heats very quick. It was fine, got hot once, I thought I just over worked it. But now I can't do anything without it overheating. Any idea what's wrong? I need it fixed fast.

If it heats very quickly and has the original waterpump I have seen a couple where the impeller became loose on the shaft. The replacements have a cast iron impeller and I have not seen those have a problem.

I pulled the radiator cap off and there was cloth fibers on the bottom. I'm wondering if a mouse built a nest in there at some point.

Well, there is a few ways to trouble shoot, I would startby looking at the radiator and engine. If the engine is hot and the radiator is not as hot or cool, coolant is not circulating, if the coolant is heating up the radiator and engine to similar temperatures, then might be air flow problem, or compound problem. Make sure fins are clean, these things like to plug on ours. verify heat is somewhat uniform throughout engine block. Might mean failed gasket or crack. Check cap, might be losing pressure and causing premature boiling. Belts and pulleys don't hurt either. Mine tends to start to heat when fuel and/or air filters start to plug. Might do some filters and re check. Timing could have jumped. plugged exhaust. Remote stuck on or hydraulic system over whelmed and robbing power/ making excessive heat. good luck.

After repainting my SC, having the radiator off for a couple weeks, I thought I smelled mouse as I added coolant but never put 2 & 2 together. Ran it on the auger about 15 minutes and it overheated. It took about 6 cooling system flushes before I got all the mouse and nest out. At least I think I have it cleaned out. Quite a mess. And a couple gallons of wasted antifreeze.

With engine cold fill radiator with water an than idle engine for few minutes an check for bubbles .If none thats a good thing --if bubbles appear constant thats a bad thing an calls for a tear down as it could be any number of things.

The tractor sat for 15 years before I bought it, maybe the radiator cap was off that whole time. The cap was on when I bough it. Some how that stuff got in there. Ill try and get the radiator off tomorrow and flush it our. Ill probably pull the thermostat out and the water pump too.

One more odd thing to check(I ran into this on a IH 460D I was working on). The radiator cap was not releasing the pressure as the engine warmed up and it kept the coolant from circulating. Engine would get hot just idling. I checked everything else including flow testing radiator. Found it by slowly loosening the cap when engine got hot and as soon as I did the engine temp dropped to normal immediately.

My dodge Cummins would run warm and a new Mopar (not gates) pressure cap cured it also. Never would have believed it before I saw it.

My Case Series 830 Model 841 would show over heat in about 30 seconds when it was started. Changed the radiator cap with a new one and the problem went away. That was about ten years ago and the tractor is still doing fine with no over heat indication. I do not think the radiator cap was sealing. Hopes this helps. Thank You
