Case 24 speed powershift vs 12 speed

Hey guys, sometime in the next couple of years I want to start farming on a smallish scale. Starting with a quarter or two. My plan is to start with a bigger two wheel drive tractor for tillage and seeding, maybe a pull-type combine. I've been around a few 70 thru 96 series Cases, and really like the tractors, but I'm a little mistrustful of the 12 speed powershift. I've never really had a chance to spend much time with a 24 speed though, how do they hold up compared to the 12 speed? I see the odd 2394 and 2594 around, they have me kinda curious.

I spent a bit of time around 1175's and a 2090 standard , I swear they must be bulletproof.

The 24 speed is same as the 12 speed with a additional planetary set and clutches ahead of it, I do not know how others who have more exposure to them feel as they were scarce in our area, I have rebuilt one two speed clutch assembly. I will be interested in others ideas as before stated, my exposure is limited.

24 speed is basically just a 12 speed with electric solenoids and another clutch pack ahead of it, you can buy a Magnum for not a huge amount of money more than what people want for a nice 94 series, the twelve speed powershift should be fairly reliable for anyone with an IQ over 70

My friend has a 2394 with the 6spd in it that I have run a lot the last 4 years. I grew up with the 3spd
and altho they were always good for us, the 6spd is much better to drive in my opinion. Much smoother
shifts and more speeds right where you need them. Don't have any long term experience tho so can't say
on the reliability.

Lyndon, there's a guy from up in your area that works at a CaseIH dealer and posts on another forum. During a discussion about the 24-speed he made the statement, "24-speed in a 23/25 is bad news." I thought a 24 would be better but they must have had some problems with them.

I have a 2394 with the 24 speed. I prefer it over the 12 speeds in my other tractors. I don't think there's any difference in reliability myself.
