Folks, I am helping a friend with a Case/ David Brown 380LL. This tractor had broken the transmission housing, and my friend was able to locate a replacement that wasn't broken nearly as bad. It looks to me like the force of running a loader bucket into a pile of material breaks the housing where the loader attaches.
At any rate, he is going back together and got to the seals in back. The book says to use a puller on the retainer plate (image attached) that is BLACK in our photo. We broke off a bolt in one hole, and stripped the other, so before we break something I wanted to check in with the experts. Does this retainer/ plate really go into the housing with an interference (press/ drive) fit? It looks like a casting, and I am trying to think of an example where a casting was used as a press fit like this. We can either drill new holes, or drill the bolt out, no problem, but I thought I would check in here. Thanks to any who can advise.
