700 high side transmission problems

Hey all, I have a problem with my 700 case's transmission. I've had the cover off but don't see anything that jumps out at me.

When I have it in eighth gear going down the road, the tractor will start to slow down. so I pull over and try to shift into a different gear and the shifter is locked up and won't move. Didn't need 8th gear for anything so I didn't worry about it. Started to make noise in 6th gear now. Still don't see anything obvious with the cover off.

After setting for a minute or so everything works fine again.

Thanks in advance

(quoted from post at 13:31:00 05/20/16) Is there enough oil covering the range selector gear in the lower part of the tranny? Could be starting to sieze, when that happens you have big problems.

Would you happen to have a picture of what I should be looking at. Oil level appears full according to the check plug, but will double check.

Ok after rechecking I had to put 2 gallons in transmission. Was looking at the wrong hole

Tim, I have done a couple dual range repairs that seized, I have a problem with that being the problem as when they seize , it's all over with, They are welded together and must be cut out with the torch! However anything is possible. I have never seen one that acted like you describe, also, it would not make the 4-8 gear shifter tight. If you have the cover off look at the front compartment and try to rotate the hi-lo by hand, see if the gear hubs look like they are blued by heat. Two gallons is low but not enough to starve the dual range, it has a slinger that throws oil up to the gears.

I can run it in the low side all day long no problem, with one exception. If I'm parked on a hill, and push the clutch in to roll backwards the tractor moves very slowly. If I bump it out of gear it starts rolling so fast I have to put on the brakes. never tried it rolling forward down hill.
