Little Guys are a Big Help

Looking across while planting, I realize how we depend on the VAC. It has run the auger for almost every bushel of corn and beans I have grown in 30 years and always been used to deliver seed to the fields. Not to mention picking rock and all sorts of misc jobs. Sure I might do things the old fashion ways yet but the systems works and does not need fixing. The VAC will stay on the job till I hang-up the farmer hat. Rod.

Handy old tractors with just enough power for the size. I never understood why Fords N series get such a high rating and resale value when a Case VA is so much more tractor. Gotta be the 3 pt.

They are a very handy little tractor Rod!And have good power for what they are! I use mine to plow out my driveway and works good!

Bret you are absolutely right Case far better tractor and far less starting and stopping problems with them

Rod. That is so true. What do they say "If it ain't broke don't fix it" Although we don't have a Vac we have a Sc & DC can't imagin life without them. Also I believe the next generation will still be using them long after the ones built yesterday are junked!!

I also like the VA and VAC tractors ,but just can't find any thing much for them to do on my farm. When I was a kid my Dad's main tractor for cutting hay, seeding ,cultivating , raking, you name it. He just wore that little tractor out . Got the chance to Buy a VA a few years back , and I jumped at it.Dad's one now, but my brothers and I can look at that tractor , and just imagine Dad ,right there with us.

My dad only part time farmed with a Farmall Cub for 20 years and then got a 1948 VAC around 1971 with a centennial plow. We used it to rake hay, pull a New Holland 66 baler and later found a Case-Detroit rear mower for it.

Case is my sentimental favorite brand but I came to understand the popularity of the 8N. Compared to the VAC, 3rd gear for the 8N is 5.7mph and the VAC is 4.1. 4th gear for the 8N is 11.9mph and the VAC is 8.1. The Ford wins big time for light field work such as racking hay in 3rd. The Ford's faster 4th gear road speed was much preferred.

The 8N rode better in the field because the seat was lower and further forward. The high VAC seat causes more side to side jostle.

The Ford's 3 point hitch had the sway function which all brands eventually adopted for good steer ability reasons when using the 3 point. No sway was a flaw in the Case Eagle Hitch.
