2470 Transmission oil level.

Is there any way to verify the trans oil level on this tractor other than those stupid sight glasses? I have the same sight glasses on a 1680 combine, and they just about work ok on that, but on this 2470, I can?t tell if they are both full or both empty. Is there a level plug or dip stick hidden anywhere? Thanks

The sight glass is the only way. However, you can carefully remove them w/ a socket, 13/16" I think, and clean them.

Thanks John. If I break one of the sight glasses trying to get it out, can I fit in a plug or bolt to keep the tractor working? I assume the glasses are still available from CNH?

I put a fitting like the drain cock on the bottom of a radiator in place of the sight glass. If oil runs out when you open it, it's full. Check often.

I thought they were available, but pricey. A58240 is the number for the site glass in the book, but it doesn't come up as a good number. It is either a 3/8" or 1/2" Pipe thread. Can't remember.

Thanks. That's a pretty good idea. I might try that if I can't clean my sight glasses, or I break them.
