Changing Job Title !

Have had to deal with some personal family issues in my life recently, and one of them is ( we were informed of this on Mother's Day, of all days ) the fact that I am about to become "Grandpa". I am proud of my Son and Daughter-in-Law, because they have chosen to adopt a child instead of having a child from themselves. I'm adopted myself, and have always felt blessed and honored that my parents made the choice to give me a home and teach me values that only a farming life can offer. Do not know if it's a boy or girl yet, so my question to you "veteran" Grandpa's is - What do I teach the child first? This should be interesting and entertaining to say the least to see what suggestions I receive. Will post info about baby when I find out more. Thanks for listening !

Mike

Mike my son and daughter in law received their first child on Mothers Day through adoption. A very wonderful day for them as they have waited 7 years to become parents. Teaching a grandchild you love them and care about them and their needs, but be respectful have been our goals. We have 9 grandkids now and do spoil them all a bit, I guess that is a grandparents duty, Rod.

Congratulations Mike! Fewer and fewer people have the opportunity to be exposed to farm life theses days. One of the "gifts" to my Grand daughter Gracie is time spent with her on the farm with her grandparents. I highly recommend the journal entitled, Grandpa Tell Me Your Memories, in which you can recall your own growing up days and events to allow your grandchild to get to know you better. There's one for Grandma as well. About the only advantage to getting older is to have grandchildren IMHO Don

We adopted six kids, now ages 6 thru 14. Two of our boys are 6 months apart. The first four are from Guatemala, the last two from Ethiopia. I can say that we have not experienced a racial issue from anyone as of yet. They are a great bunch of kids. Teach them to PRAY is my best advice.

I work with an electrician that adopted a boy and girl from Guatemala, because they couldn't have kids, then a couple years later, they had to from themselves. I actually had the girl as a Co-op Student working for me last summer.

First off, congratulations Mike. I've been told grandkids are your reward for not killing your kids. I'm including a few pictures (it's a grandpa thing) of our first grandchild adopted from Ethiopia. She is now 11 and has been joined by a boy from Columbia and a daughter born to my son and daughter in law. The pictures indicate the important things to teach them. First is baby dedication at church followed by toy tractors and real tractor rides. The grandkids come to Iowa from Rhode Island to visit for two weeks each summer so they know about "real life" on the farm.

You have a good looking bunch of Grandkids to say the least, but I think they'd really look good on a CASE tractor myself. LOL !! To bad they couldn't spend more time on the farm, don't spoil them to much.

Mike

I love being Papaw and the wife loves being Mammaw !!!!my grands 2 girls and a boy 16,14,12. Poor Matt is stuck between the girls. All of them have and drive their own tractor. Matt loves helping load and riding in the semi when we go to shows. Unfortunaly they grew up away from us as my son was in the Air Force. But they are close now and we spoil the crap out of them....That's another good thing is you can send them home when they don't behave :D :)

I have two granddaughters one is almost 4 and she is my "little buddy" and a Big help to me in the gardens. The second one is almost 4 months and "papa" is teaching her to blow "raspberries" and she tries but can't quite do it yet. lol

THEY ARE MY BIGGEST JOY IN THE WORLD.

Well Mike life is looking up for you. Grandkids are great you can send them home after you have given them to much ice cream. We have four grandkids with a fifth due in August. Plus two that have adopted me. One of our granddaughters was adopted as a new born what a joy and blessing she is. I try to teach them like I taught my own kids. The picture is of the granddaughter that is adopted. Enjoy Steve
