We are planting in a few muddy areas, but rain is forecast for everyday this week so everyone is planting in our neighborhood. Could seen four others planting from where I was working yesterday. Rod.

Hello Rod,

I just can't get over that beautiful ground you have-and no rocks. Must be like farming in Heaven. Starting to get quite dry here. They keep forecasting rain but we only get sprinkles. Don

I had to take a second look @ the first pic. I thought I should see a little exhaust from her, then I zoomed in too find she did not have an operator. Great looking soil!

Mn has some good soil but we don't get the weather that northern Ia does. Our ground is alot heavier than anything in nw Ia but they get more timely rains and more growing degree units and 1700 feet elevation doesn't help either. Rod is south of me and his area benefits from the lower elevation and better weather.

The boy was running the 2590 working bean ground when the hydraulics started acting up. The big oil line from the pump had a crack in the flare. No one had a new one so I went to Hendricks because they were supposed to have a 2390. There was no 2390 and no line so I got a steel line from a 1070 and cut the end off of it and the line for the 2590. I made a 3/4 id sleeve on the lathe and slipped it over the ends and brazed it together. I found the filter wire had come off so I put it on only to find the light was on so off to Pipestone to get filters. $65.00 for the filters and $20.00 for the gasket! I also got 15 gallons of hytran at $13.50 a gallon so for a grand total of $288.50 I was back in business. I got the 1070 going on the planter Fri. evening. Planter had one bad sensor but all is working good now, knock on wood! I wish I had a way to take and post pictures so the others could see what the poor farmers have to run for machinery! I will have to say I did enjoy watching the 25 pulling the digger in 3/2 and rolling a little coal in the tough spots!

I had a uncle that farmed near Pipestone,so i visited there ever summer all thru the 50's into the early 60's, but he had nothing like that for fields, but it was rock free. That looks like the creme of the crop, for nice soil.

Yep, 3/2 is a good speed for tillage. The 4690 handles the 30' Case field cultivator and drag just fine up hill and down. That's the only gear I use on it or the 24. Got a picture of the 800 cyclo I plant with. Its a 8 row but I took two units off to fit my corn head. The planter does a really good job as the units are the same up to the 1250 series I think. Used a 400 cyclo for 28 years and got along fine, the 800 is surely a upgrade.....

Great pics Rod! Just curious if you were going to put the "new" to you 2470 in action this spring?
Kow Farmer Kurt

Hi Kurt, as of now I have no intentions of using the 24 for spring work. But it does have a 3pt and if the 13 would develop a problem maybe, Rod.

Nice pics Steve, geez I thought I was the only one that used the same planter for 25 years, Rod.

Don we do have a far amount of rocks, but for the most part the soils are very good. Rod.

Things are going ok now . I got some Dual sprayed on the corn we have planted so far today and the alfalfa is coming up. I always like to be done with corn by the 10th but we won't make it this year, when will depend how much rain we get Mon and Tues. As for Steve and your pics a 70 series looks good hooked to a planter. My 1070 was parked in a field I got planted and the neighbors 1066 was parked across the road hooked to his planter. I might be biased but the 70 series had better styling in my opinion.

They look good out there strutting their stuff! Really great pictures Rod.
Wanted to thank you too, for all the people you help on here. Hopefully most thank you.
And your posts

Looking good Rod! It has been a hit-n-miss spring here weather wise too. I was able to finish corn last friday and switched to beans. It took about 2 weeks for everybodys corn to come up due to the cool/wet temps we been having the last several weeks. Starting last night and today we had got 1.5" of rain and supposed to rain several more days yet and there's already standing water around the area. Most all the corn has been planted around me and several of us have been planting beans. Right or wrong it is what it is, happy planting! :)
