The original subject was "2390 startor electrical trouble".

We have exactly the same problem with our Case 2390! Parked it one day after plowing and hasn't run since. No power, can't start it, no lights, etc, but the chassis is positively charged. New startor, new solenoid. How did you solve your problem?

We ended up getting a used starter from a salvage yard. Never did find out what was wrong with new one we purchased from the starter shop. The owner came out and looked at the starter on the tractor and he was baffled too. We actually got a second rebuild from him thinking the first was defective but it operated the same. I'd recommend finding a used one and giving that a try.

Thank you so much for your prompt reply. It has been out of commission since last fall. We will try another starter.

Thanks again.

I had my starter rebuild a week ago on a Case 2090. The starter was still running a time or two even though I was off of the key switch. Thought it was the primary solenoid on the starter originally. Contacts were burnt bad and wouldn't release as they sort of weld themselves together. Most of the time the drive wasn't engaged into the flywheel. Once I did find the drive engaged. A couple of times tapping on the solenoid would release it. Once it didn't and I had to remove the + cable from the battery. That time I blamed it on the solenoid inside the frame that makes the contact to energize the starter solenoid. Changed that solenoid also. As this was my planter tractor I couldn't deal with this problem so I promptly took it into the local starter shop. One hour later I walked out with a better than new starter. Put the starter in and it wouldn't work. No lights, no turn signals, etc. Called the starter shop and they said I needed to run a wire from the negative post on the starter back to one of the screws that holds the solenoid on. Did that and it works fine. Used a #10 wire as all current for lights, alternator, etc. goes though it. This tractor never had that wire before. Neither does my Case 2290. But believe me I put this wire from the solenoid screw to the negative on the starter and everything works. I don't know if the regular factory starter had an internal grounding strap or something and then you get another starter which is the same starter but for a slightly different application and it doesn't ground. Temporarily you could check this out by connecting a booster cable on to the negative starter post and then grounding it somewhere on the frame. See if the lights work now. Goodluck.

BINGO! That was it! No ground in the new starter! Thank you, thank you, thank you. We were at our wits end. Just can't thank you enough. We were finally able to get in the fields.

Thanks again!
