5' Eagle - Need advice

I'd like to know what you guys think of this eagle.
The lettering has been added by tack welding from the back.
Has anyone seen this before on an original or does this
automatically make it a reproduction?

The lettering should be embossed in the casting with a broad font.
I wouldn't think anyone would take the time to grind all the
lettering off but never heard of Case casting any without letters.

My email is open if you'd rather contact me there or if you
want to forward a name or number of someone I could talk to.
Is there anyone out there you would consider knowledgeable?
To bad Harry Kline is gone, may his soul rest in peace.

I'm including pictures of a known original for comparison.
Thanks, Brad

There was one floating around a couple years ago that a auctioneer from Alaska had that someone had ground off all the CASE letters. I didn't see it in person but I saw several Pics of it & I just didn't feel comfortable with it so I walked away. It also looks like the neck has been repaired. Gerald

Brad, guess I'm going to give you my gut on this. Honestly I think I have seen one like this, and it wouldn't have been fake, my thinking is who knows what the first Eagles look like, look this might be a prototype?? Time for everyone to dig. The answer is out there, I might be all wrong......

I know almost nothing about them but will take a big chance and give you-----$50 for it!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Tee

Your Abe and the lettering represent different eras and they still protect the original against forgers through license fees.

Barry, are you saying this eagle is original, just an earlier era?
Is this fact or speculation? I can't find anyone with a definitive answer.

Dan, this brings another question to mind I've always wondered. What year were the first eagles produced? Anybody ever hear of that topic being discussed or read it in a book somewhere?

Gerald, I've heard of some of these getting the grinder at some time in their life.
This could still be an original but with the letters added again later.
If it's an early factory variation, then I've never seen or heard of one before.
No one has yet to verify this idea.
And good eye on the patch job. I noticed but didn't mention it.

Steve, He does look good but I feel chilly just looking at him.
Won't be long before you'll have to give him a big floppy hat and a pair of sunglasses!
They're talking near 90 degrees come Friday.

Casenut, It is obvious the lettering is different, but my question is....is it possible the eagle itself is an original?
I just don't know how to tell and was looking for some historical insight on different variations. If any???
For as much money as these things bring at auctions, nobody really seems to know much about them.

Brad,

There is a small town called Eagleton in western WI that has a Case Eagle as a town marker with the letters ground off. Don

There used to be one in front of the CASE dealer in Belle Fourche, S.D. back in the fifties. It was painted CASE orange or whatever that color is called. I often wonder what happened to it.
