400 PSB Injector Pump

Trying to resurrect a 400 Diesel w/ the American Bosch PSB Pump. Got good flow & pressure out of the Final Fuel Filter, thru the line & to the pump. However, when I crack the injector lines @ the Pump Head, or the Injector, I'm not getting enough fuel to start the engine. Very small squirt of fuel. We've whirled the engine with 2 hot batteries on the de-compresser, and towed the old girl & spun the engine @ 1500 RPM for 1/4 mile. What can be the problem?

Probably it's in the head and rotor(where the lines fasten on pump). AB pumps have about 3 times as many parts in them versus Roosamaster or Robert Bosch.

Best way is get timing marks for pump lined up and remove it and take it to a good diesel pump repair service.

When the hydraulic heads get REALLY worn the engine will not start when hot, but may start when cold. Applies to any brand pump. Last plow day I saw an Oliver 88 which has the PSB, when it was shut off at lunch it needed a pull to restart as the engine would not crank fast enough by the starter. I cringe anymore when a PSB shows up, usually takes two or three pumps to get enough parts to make one work. Ambac parts support is very poor. When the head internal clearances increase with wear over time the cranking delivery always suffers first..
