Ready Set Mow!

Both mowers were in need of some servicing. The 44 in deck on the table got the works, brgs, belts and blades. The 60 in needed a center blade spindle and belts. The tractors just needed the normal spring oil change, grease and tire check. Other than fuel fill-ups and oil check they will get neglected for the remainder of the mowing season. Everyone just hops on and expects them to go. Rod.

Had to work on my 60" today also. Top nut loosened and the keyway is worn. Put a new key in and tightened it with the impact. If a guy doesn't put the same shims on the bottom on each blade they don't cut level. They are a cuttin son of a gun but do need some maintenance.

Steve I love the 60 in deck, not good for the tight spots or rough ground but those son of guns will really cut grass.

I had to give my Kubota 60" mower deck a good going over earlier this week also. Greesed all the fittings on the spindles and gauge wheels, added a bit of gear oil to the gearbox, sharpened the blades and readjusted the gauge wheels. I have warn off all the tread on the gauge wheels and it was scalping a bit. It works really good now.

My first Case garden tractor had the 14hp one cylinder Kohler. It had adequate power and I ran it about 20 years. Years ago, had the opportunity to buy a 446 with the two cylinder Onan engine with 18 hp--high rpm but low torque. The torque was not adequate to run the deck at any significant forward speed in my grass. I put a larger pulley on the deck so the Onan could run at higher speed and the deck need less engine torque. I tolerated the Onan for several years. The Kohler was a better engine.
