Some Rainy Day Pictures

It has been a cold and rainy day here and while searching for some decals I stumbled across a stack of old Successful Farming magazines from 50s-70s. At least thats the range I have seen in the 5 or 6 I have
looked through so far.
Here are some pictures that I took from sifting through them:

Also, I was looking through a stack of Old Abe's News and saw this 300 prototype in a 2000 issue. They were wondering if it was real or not and I didn't ever see a reply. I'm guessing NickKY might know
something about it at least. Maybe this has been brought up before. Just thought it was something interesting.

Anywho, enjoy.

I like the pics of the 1030. We had neighbour's move in about 40 years ago who had 2 brand new ones. Got to drive it a few times, quite a step up from my dad's old 44! Ben

Thank you for the replies. I have to look through the rest later and see what else I can find. I could scroll through those all day and be happy.

Love the overhead shot of the Chisel-planter! Notice the fender mounted radio. I started farming in the fall of 68 with a 930 W. Spec. and the first modification I made as a 20 year old new farmer was to put a radio on the tractor. Next was a straight pipe on the exhaust.....probably why I can't hear today.

On the planter, it looks like the chisel is behind the planting shoe, or am I seeing it wrong, What was the purpose of the chisel shank?

The one you see is actually beside the row. Shanks were set like a normal chisel, tilling all the ground. The K-160 planter units planted behind four of the shanks on 38" spacing. I have another that is 6 row 30" spacing. The operators manual gave a diagram for shank spacing to match what row configuration you wanted.

Top chisel planter picture is of my grandpa, on ground we still farm!! We have some more pictures from that session I'll have to post them sometime!!

Yes,
It's the Gyger 300 prototype that I now own.

This article lead to the discovery of another prototype in Michigan that I also have. Both prototypes were in Old Abes News a few issues after this one.

Thanks for posting, Nick
