VAC engine swap to 188

What would it take to put a 188 diesel into a VAC? I've seen some threads for pullers putting 201 combine engines needing to drill some holes in the block to line up with the bell, are those blocks the same so same holes needing drilled on the 188? What about flywheel/starter?

(quoted from post at 15:24:52 04/28/16) The engine is physically longer isn't it? requiring extension of tin-work and steering?

I read it's only about 1.25" longer so minimal mods to steering/tinwork

I compared the blocks once and if memory serves me correctly the bolt pattern on the rear of the engines is different. But knowing some guys can make anything work my
guess is this has been done before. Rod.

The 188 gas block was the same as the diesel as far as pattern is concerned and I have put them in a VAC. Have never done a diesel but see no reason it would be any different. The most tedious part will be getting the two shaft centers aligned and marking and drilling and threading the rear of the block. The front mount pattern was the same as the VAC.

The ring gear cage is the weak point as we have broken some.
