I knew there was 6 fins on later tractors and 8 on the early ones. Now this 870 shows up with 10. I never knew some had 10. Rod.

I have a 10 fin 870 and 1070 here, both are 1970 model year.

Also a 6 fin 870 (white,1974), and an 8 fin 970(Sunset, 1974 also).

Others are scattered at other farms at the moment.

I just went out and counted mine its a 10 fin I cant find a serial number on it to find out the year does this mean its probably a 1970??

Serial number should be on an aluminum tag just inside the door where you would kick it with your foot.

If you get the engine number(above starter) and trans number(in front of right brake housing) we can probably narrow it down for you.

ahh that explains why I cant find it , some put indoor/outdoor carpet in that old cab it must be under it. guess its time to rip it out thanks for your help by the way

I would like to meet your wife rgmartin........so I
know what one looks like that will let me have more
tractors!! Hahaha

For the longest time she would ask "how many" when another one appeared in the driveway that looked different. Didn't get questioned on a couple when they looked similar to one I already had(3cylinder DBs all look the same to her, cabbed white 870 when already had a cabbed white 970). When I started answering "I don't know how many I have", she quit asking. My dad and I will blame each other once in a while too.

Only brought home 2 in the last month. I look at them as an investment. Everything I have is still modern enough to pay the bills, but old enough to not need computer to repair.

Lol. Good way to look at it Hey I found that
serial num tag. It's under the carpet you had it right
tho. On the left side where the inside of your ankle
would be. It's so worn off I barely could read it. It
definitely starts with 865 tho and that makes it a
1970. Thanks again

rod; I have 2 early 970's with 12 fins on each side panel.one is the 1'st one built and the other is the 35th one made. you can look in lots of early brochures and the pictures from the bong air force show in august of 1969 and see several of the first tractors had 12 fins. hope this helps. john thierer
