770-2gear vs 3gear Balancers

Read a post on 870's a few back and there was mention of possible engine balancer issues on 770-870 engines. The 770's serial break seems to be 8675001 with above being the preferred 2 gear and below either the 2 gear or the 3 gear. Does this sound plausible or did I misunderstand? Also is it a common concern? The one near me is auctioned this Saturday and is the one I used to own. Also thanks Loren for the turbo info. Sounds like a neat project. In closing, I've just started following the Case forum and I really enjoy it. Lots of great photos, good technical information and very little "drama". Thanks again......Ron
 
Some claim that heavy oil in cold temps does not get through the small oil lines to the balancer bearings. If I run mine below 20 degrees I plug the engine heater in the night before, and snap a magnetic heater to the oil pan at the same time. If you change oil and filters when you should, keep them serviced properly, and take a few precautions in cold weather you will not have any trouble with them.
