51 VAC - How to bleed the hydraulics?

On my 51 VAC I drained the hud oil and replaced a hose going back to a 3x8 cyl that operates the rear stockton hitch. After putting oil in, if I acrtivate one of the control levers, I get a squeeling noise which I assume is air in system. Cyl does nothing. This has the front timing gear driven pump. The fill plug is a long tube? Not sure if I have air or need more oil? Any ideas out there? Dick

I could be and probably am wrong, but I did not think the vac had that hydraulic pump after 1950. Thought the Eagle hitch came on the 1950's and after. I did not answer your question. sorry. gobble

Correction on my part. It is a 49 not a 51 with a Stockton Hitch and it has the hyd pump up front by timing gear. I also have a 51 with Case eagle hitch. Dick

Dick,
What you have is parts of 2 separate kits that were available to update the VA series tractors that were built before the Eagle Hitch with live Hydraulics came out. Your rockshaft has been modified to mount the hyd cylinder on top of the trans instead of under the torque tube. You need to fill from the tube you mentioned. The tube was installed to make it easier to ad oil when the 3 pt depth stop was in place. If you have enough oil in it the hyd system should not need bleeding. I have more pics of the kits I can post when I get back home.

I figured out a while back that it had a Stockton Hitch. First I had seen. Someone did modify the Stockton hitch. How much hydraulic oil should it hold if the oil was all drained out? 10wt or 30wt? Dick

Dick,
The book says 6 quarts. They are not very picky about what oil you use, I use the universal hydraulic oil in the 5 gal bucket. You can remove the tube from the Y fitting and put a pipe plug in the hole. It will make it easier to see the level in the torque tube. The level should be just below the hole in the torque tube the y fitting screws into. Same as you other VAC with eagle hitch.
