DC Case Steering shaft bearings

Question: can the steering shaft bearings and top shaft bushing be replaced without removing the top cover on the transmission: it would sure would save some time and effort if only the steering column needed to be removed. Thanks PJ

Pastor John,

Yes you can. You may be amazed at how worn the bearing might be. But, I have seen the gears in the top cover be loose and need to be tightened to reduce steering slop and that required removal of the top cover. Don

Thanks Don. It's worth a look. I rotated the steering arm a quarter turn today and took out an unbelievable amount of backlash. The bushing is very sloppy at the top of the steering column so I'm sure those bearings will be equally bad. But it's lots of fun for a guy who hasn't done much of this stuff before.
