Case 885 help needed. Tractor engine runs fine. Hydraulics working fine. Tractor ground speed very slow in relation to engine speed. In 3 High S, top speed only around 3 mph.
Is my clutch going bad or slipping? If so, what is the fix?

Thanks to all.

Where does the clutch "bite" when you let the pedal up? Can you feel a distinct 2nd stage on the clutch pedal about half way down?

Will it pull itself up a hill in a higher gear?

The clutch does not have the bite it used to when I let the pedal up. Also, it has difficulty pulling itself up a hill now, when it earlier did so without difficulty.

Thanks for your reply.

You can try adjusting the clutch, but odds are it is fried if you have been slipping it for very long.

Adjust free play in pedal first by screwing in or out the vertical bolt with the domed head near where the clutch shaft goes into the bell housing(loosen jamb nut on it first). You want the pedal to move 3/4"-1" before you feel any resistance from the pressure plate springs.

Then you can adjust the second stage through the inspection cover, I like to set at .080" or so, measured at the end of the screws. Set all 3 screws the same.
