My brother bought a new 1066,and it used a gallon of oil a day, he wrangled with the dealer for two years saying, just run it, it will come out of it.Before springs work of the 3 rd year, he said your giving me 2- 55 gallons drums of oil, where are they. Then they said bring it in,then the mechanic admitted later all he was told to do was to put in new rings. That was a half of job, because it then used a half gallon a day. Thats the only time i heard of just putting in rings, in a diesel, and it didnt do much.

Is that even possible? There are valve reliefs in the pistons.
Would they be in the right place if you turned them around ?
You could machine them as the pullers do.

I sort of doubt the pistons got turned a 180 degrees. There are valve reliefs cut into the piston, they are to be installed only one way. I have never installed any
backwards so I can not comment what would happen if they were. Rod.

I doubt that there is enough clearance at tdc and overlap to allow that, the combustion bowl may not evenbe on center?? Not sayng it couldn't be done but have my doubts. Mel

We got an IH 436/466 in the shop once that had the pistons in backwards. There were 2 sets of valve reliefs in them, one machined, and one, shall we say, "custom fitted". Don't know how that thing didn't bend the pushrods, don't know how the previous mechanic didn't hear something wrong either.
