2470 Dyno Results

At 7 degrees the temp was less than ideal for the testing. I did not hook up water for obvious reasons so I did a couple quick pulls before the dyno got hot. I did leave the tractor warm up before doing any loading. I did a test at full rated speed and then a test at 1300 rpms because that is the speed the engine will be operated when using the 540 rpm snowblower. Sorry for the blurred dyno readout. I did not realize that happened until I down loaded pics this eve. At rated speed we recorded a healthy 225 hp. Even at the 1300 rpm test the old girl would produce 125 hp. And that would climb fast with the addition of a few more rpms. You have to love the way these old turboed 504's in stock form plus a little additional fuel pull. I did set the governor a bit before testing so I really do not know at what hp it was operated at before. I will not be operating this tractor at full rpm for PTO work and if I do happen to use it for tillage work, there also I like to shift them up and run around 1700 rpm's. Rod.

MY 24 doesn't have a pto so I don't know the horsepower on it. I did open the pump up about 1/4 turn after I overhauled it a few years back. I don't think it is 50 over factory like yours is, but it still does a good job. Have to see if there is much difference between it and your 1470 this spring. I do know from running a 1470 years ago that the 2470 will be quieter in the cab.

Looking good! Get some extra snowblower shear bolts handy, I have a hunch you may need them. I have a front mount on an old tired AC 7000 I acquired, sure saves the neck.

Looks good Rod. My dad has a P400A dyno. It works pretty good given its age and comes in handy for testing purposes.

We ran a 2 stage blower that was intended to be run at 540 rpm on a 1000 rpm pto for many years. Needless to say that thing would really move snow at about 1000 rpm's which you of course weren't supposed to do but it happened a lot. Surprisingly we never had issues with the gearbox or any of the drive lines.

Looking forward to seeing some action pictures.

Nice looking rig Rod! Was the pump set like that at the factory? Nobody believes me but our 1070 needed a new PTO clutch years back and when the mechanic put it on the dyno it hit 130 hp with the pump seals intact. He could not believe his eyes. Don

Don, we always found that to be the case back in the late 60s and 70s when Dad was trading tractors frequently. The case tractors always came from the factory with more than "rated" horsepower. The farm next to us had Deere equipment, and the first thing they did when receiving new tractors was "adjust" things to get to rated hp or a little better.

Rod, I've been watching this project with great interest. We had a 2470 like yours when I was in high school. It had 23.1 tires rather than duals, but she was a workhorse. Thanks for sharing.... - Joe

Loren it's funny the way things work out sometimes. This tractor sat unused for 4-5 years and then on a dealers lot for 6 mo. before I stumbled across it. I was looking for a good running used engine, that is what I bought and they threw in the rest of the tractor. I was not wanting or looking for another tractor. This past week left me waiting for parts on the other jobs I am working on and the 24 happen to be here for me to work on . Well time to search for another engine, LOL. Rod.

Steve I do not use the 14 for any spring work, but come fall I might compare the 2 using them on the disc chisel. I am sure the 24 has more power and is quieter but it is fun running the ole 1470. Rod.

Don when I worked at the dealership I dynoed several new 24's and they were always close to the factory setting plus a couple. The only models that I seen run consistantly higher hp from the factory was 15's and 25's. The rest were pretty darn close that I checked. Rod.

Joe, we seen the same thing at our dealership, I can remember well the first 1370 we got in in fall of 1971 yes 71, it was rated at 142hp as the first ones were, it was turning 165hp not even broken in and I really do not know what it would have done as our dyno only went to 165hp, our CASE service rep came to see it as there was only one other out at that time in his territory, he was not surprised when he was standing at the dyno and I was in the seat, the good ole days,, I highly doubt many of the new ones do this today

Just found your post Rod, yes couldn't agree with you more, the 504 was a good lugging and snappy engine. Great blowing tractor
