Got the 24 tore down today and found a C-1 disc had split causing all the fuss, the reason the previous owner elected to dump this tractor. The other 2 disc's were also beginning to crack as I marked with yellow. I checked out the entire power shift and found the only other thing to be concerned about is the bore in which the ball brg sits in the plant. carrier was worn. Hopefully after a stop at the local salvage yard I can find the pieces I need to get this running again for a reasonable price. Rod.

Rod, Glad to hear that it was not that serious. If the snows keep coming like they have you might use it on the snow blower yet!Does the 24 have both thousand and 540 pto? Darrell

I hope you find what you need to fix it. I think it's a mistake to base the value of a repair against resale value, I think basing it on work value is a better idea. If you spent $5,000 on repairs and used that tractor for 5 years the repair cost wouldn't amount to much compared to the cost of a new 250 hp tractor. But then I know that's notba common opinion.

Rod,

Good to hear its not too serious. I would have been a shame to part out that nice machine. Lots of life in that ol' Case yet. Don

Darrell they only have a 1000, that is OK. I plan on using it on a 540 snowblower. I will adjust the gov so we have hopefully around a 150 hp at 1500 rpm's..I will operate it at 1300-1500 rpm which also slows down the Rev. I have operated the 13 like that already and it works good. The 4wd should work awesome. I am going to leave a few drifts in the yard so I can test it out this coming weekend I hope. Rod.

Yes Loren it appears this thing might stick around for a while. I am looking forward to putting the blower on it and seeing how it works. I will leave a few drifts in the yard from todays blizzard so maybe by the weekend we can have a test run, LOL. Rod.

Don I really do not need this thing, but I will have very little money in it. So what the heck so many of these have gone to the grave yard already I will keep this for a while and have a little fun. Rod.

Jon it has been surprising the last few years, guys have spent money fixing some tractors that are not worth anywhere near the repair bill. But like you mentioned, they plan on using them for many years yet. Rod.

Rod, Just looking at posts again this morning. Your tital looks like what comes up on my computer screen when I hit System Mechanic. 2,470 problems found. HeHe

Hey Rod would your machine shop that fixed the 2096 shaft be able to open up the planet carrier where the bearing sets and mabye go with a little bigger outside diameter bearing to get everything tightened back up, just thinking out loud.

Rod,

Glad it is a somewhat simple fix. I agree with Jon. Sometimes it may cost more to fix a tractor than what it is worth but my thought is that you already own the tractor and know it's history which to me is worth a lot. If you toss the broken one and buy something different and you may be inheriting someone else's problem that will probably cost more in the long run.

Eli

Eddie, I have had those repaired. A good shop can weld that up and machine it down to the correct size, Rod.
