Hi
Bought my 970 8 speed about a year ago. Seems like a good tight tractor. Have been fixing various hydralic oil leaks, pto, power steering, etc. Happened to notice foam in the sight glasses while running. Warmed her up the other day and drained out the hyd. oil. No foam in oil when I drained it. Replaced with new and changed filter. Still have some foam in sight glasses. Is this normal and I didn't notice before ? or is something amiss ? Thanks so much!

Screw a coupler end on a piece of hydraulic hose about 4 feet long and use it to pump a gallon of oil into a can. if your pump is sucking air you will be able to tell. Could it be condensation on the sight glass that looks like foam?

What kind of oil did you use? Some foam more than others. Some bubbles in the glasses is not unusual.

I have two tractors do the same thing ended up being a cut oring behind the hydraulic pump. Has the hydraulic pump been changed?

Go to your oil supplier and get a test kit, and send it in a sample of the oil and see what the Lab says is in there. It will cost about $15.00.

I refilled with Hyraulic/ transmission fluid. Got it at tractor supply. Black can,not the yellow 303 oil. Also the hydraulic pump has not been changed looks like original paint on it.

If the hydraulic pump has been removed and put back on sometimes people cut the oring going back with it. I think a lot has to do with not taking the top liink mount off that keeps it from going in straight. The part# for the oring a30915
