900-B oil seeping from starter

I've got some oil seeping out of the starter on my 900-B from internal, not around the gasket. Rear-main seal bad? or is there an internal seal on the starter that keeps oil out of it that may have gone bad?

No rear main seal. Engine oil lubes the Clutch. Yes, there is an internal shaft seal in the starter. A shop will be able top replace it.

That is what i was thinking after reading in the shop manual on the clutch setup. Thanks for confirming.

You are the man to talk to for hard to find parts right? Wouldn't happen to have a Steering Sector gear for a 900-B would you? Mine is beyond sloppy. Will either need to find a better one or have a shop build it up and regrind.

Hard to find parts?? I'm getting to the point where I need some gravy. I'm pretty sure I don't have that gear. Have you pulled it yet? Bearings OK? I had to build up a Starter Ring Gear, the way you describe, but I had our son wire weld the bad teeth up, & I used a small grinder & file & patience to shape the teeth back. Works great. Point is, you might not need to spend a fortune.

I had thought about that too, but I think I would maybe call around to some salvage yards and try to get another one first just incase i screw up, Still have something to salvage.
