Our former head mechanic stopped by today to drop off some aligning dowles for the flywheel and said he could get the speed-o tube out of the tranny. Ten minutes later he had it out, and the broken end of the flex cable in hand..I couldn't get my hand to bend enough to get a socket on the 3/8"cap bolt that held the retainer in place. He wiggled his hand in and got the socket and a ratchet on it and then pryed on the handle with a bar to break the bolt loose. once the bolt was out and retainer clip was removed, the tube pulled out of the drive gear housing.
the first pic you can see the bolt on the web of the tranny and the clip on the tube and the drive down on the end of the pinion. Second pic is the broken end of the drive cable and the third is of Terry, known to all around here as GOD. My dad hired him directly out of highschool and he is a self tought mechanic, although he has attended the Case training schools for many years also. It got to the point when our Case service reps would call him for advice. He is retired from the machinery business now and works in the local school bus garage. He also does a lot of repairs for the local farmers, including my uncles up on the farm.
