Bleeding the last filter on 400 Case

I have all new filters and followed the book on bleeding the fuel system and can't get fuel to bleed out of the top of the last filter, it seems like it is going back into the pump. And I have a full tank of fuel. Any ideas- need help? Thanks

That has always been an issue for me, and it's because the check valve in the top of the filter will not allow a gravity bleed. The only way I've every had it work is to manually fill the filter with fuel, and then cranking and initial running will sort it out. All I can assume is that the early filters did not have that internal check valve, and now, to fit other applications and to combine part numbers, it's the filter we get. I could be wrong but I've fought that bugger ever since the first 400 came to live on our farm.........................

I'll second that a little air pressure goes a long way to bleeding the third filter.

To answer your other question. The only fuel pump in the system is the transfer pump on the injection pump.

Good luck!

take out the plug and fill with CLEAN dsl. fuel, there was an inline American Bosch for export. a friend of mine has one, the psb has the lift pump built into it and is only gravity fed to the primary filter

I'll 2nd that air pressure deal, I'd forgotten about it. Just be sure to turn the regulator down to around 10 psi or less, or it can get ugly...... The air works really great for one man brake bleeding too, you have to have a scrap master cylinder cap to mount a male air hose adapter to, low psi, around 5 or so really works slick. Just keep the m/c full or you get to do it again.
