311B pinion carrier plate

My dad and I are installing new seals on the pinion shafts so the brakes will work again. One side done, but now can't get the tapered cross head screw out of the other side. Of course it's the one nearest to the axle. Any hints here? Drill it out? Weld a small bolt to it? Any ideas would be most helpful. Thanks!

heat the head of it with a torch until its cherry red, let it cool completely, it should then all most turn out with your fingers

I have had one of those for 40 years they do work if you use them First looks like he has stripped the head,, that is why I suggested they way I did,,, Good info though!!

I agree with CN, That is the first thing I do before even trying them, as he stated, torch it bright red hot and it will screw out easily I have never had that fail.

Zach if every thing else fails weld a washer to the head then weld a nut to the washer ,and this also will work. Jerry from Ohio

Thanks for all the input guys. I will try all the trucks until I get it out. I'll let you know how it went.
