I was impressed the machinist could cut this down, the gear and shaft are very hard. The two shafts are nearly identical on both ends now. I installed it and everything fit great. Also found Old Abe on a front casting of this tractor. The 3rd pic shows how I install a cupped washers and rubber sleeve's on the screws that secure the breather tube on 30 series and newer engines. These seal much better than the washer normally used. 4th pic shows shortening a mounting leg on the air filter housing used on later 12-13+1570 tractors. Anyone that has removed and installed one of these housings knows what a pain they are. Removing the extra length that is not needed still does not make the job easy, but it helps. 5th is the hibernating 430 and 870. The sheets are not so much for dust, but to keep the bat crap off them. Their crap stains the paint quickly. For some reason it seems to affect the fresher paint jobs worse. Rod.

Rod, Nice machining, but I'm worried for any other 2096's needing repairs in the future. We have a 2096 here. Old Abe sits proud, even though he's concealed on that casting. On early Magnums, Old Abe can sometimes be found on top of the clutch housing, under the firewall. I'm sure all the loyalists to Old Abe have been routed out by now.

so the shaft you cut down was out of a later serial#?I went through this a year ago but able to get mine repaired(two chipped teeth)
