Clutch R&R Help

Had a great day yesterday splitting my 1966 David Brown 880 tractor for a two stage clutch R&R. Everything went great all the bolt and nuts cooperated and came loose without any major problems. The question I have is how do you remove the flywheel? I removed the four bolts holding it to the crankshaft but could not get it to break loose. I took out the starter and tried knocking it loose from that side but it didn’t budge. Am I missing something?

I would like to resurface the flywheel but if I can’t remove it should I just replace the clutches and resurface the floating flywheel? The floating flywheel had heat cracks on the outside. The inside clutch was oil soaked and sticking (that explains why I couldn’t engage/disengage the PTO without grinding gears) but the flywheel didn’t appear to have any shinny smooth spots on either the floating or regular flywheel. Thanks for you advise and help.

There is an alignment dowel that can be sticky. 4 bolt, or 4 nuts holding it on?

Turn the engine a little and beat on the flywheel through the starter hole, turn some, beat, turn some beat... It will come.

That said if the flywheel doesn't look terrible, might not be worth the trouble. Unless you want to change/check the rear main seal to see if you can solve the oil in the clutch problem.

(quoted from post at 21:58:08 01/20/16) worn bearings are always a suspect when a seal leaks whether in an engine, gear box or whatever.

Not when it is British. They are supposed to leak some, kinda like a dipstick, lets you keep track of the oil level. When it stops leaking, it is time to add more oil.
