2096 Input Shaft Update

As some of you know I have been trying to locate a input shaft for a early 2096. Both early and late shafts are no longer available from CNH so a search for a good used one has been a disappointment as the only early shaft we could locate turned out to be defective also. So now it's on to plan B, we did find two shafts for later tractors and I purchased one and delivered it to a local machine shop to be modified to work in our early unit. This later one as you see has a thicker gear and is slightly longer. After the gear is cut down the shaft will still be a bit long so the splines on the other end will have to be shortened. It looks like this should work. I will post a pick of the finished shaft. Rod.

Its a shame how many parts one can no longer get new. Then if you can still buy them they are so over priced.

Thanks for the update. This project of yours has been of special interest as a 2096 caught my attention recently but it was gone before I made a decision.

I'm not sure if I ought to update my 2590 or 7140 and as the list of NLA parts grows, it makes me wonder if planned obsolescence is the new business model at CNH.

Rod,

Seems to me that the later gear and shaft is significantly beefier than the older one. Must have been a weak design and should have been offered at a reduced price. Just my 2 cents worth. Don

Don, I do give CASE credit for improvements and here is one for sure. What is odd is the fact they used that thinner gear size in tractors up to the 1370's. At a 160+ hp I very seldom seen a problem occur in those tractors concerning the gear.

Are you sure the one in the photo didnt come from a 2394-2594-3394-3594 Six speed Input ??? Just a Thought !It would be my Thought's
