J I Case 1690

I am workng on a 1690 for a friend of mine, I was looking at another sight and 1 post said to be sure and change the oil in the injector pump. The pump has "minimec" stamped on it. It is made in England, there is a plug on the the bottom of the pump and another plug about 1/2 way up on the left side of the pump. Does the oil need to be changed? how often? what kind of oil do I use to refill it? This tractor also has 2 hydraulic pumps, one in front of the crank pulley and 1 below the alternator. What opperates what? I know very little about this tractor other than what I have read on a few forums. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

The one below the alternator is the power steering pump. It has a filter in the reservoir that probably has never been changed.

The oil should be changed in the injector pump at minimum when the engine gets changed. No doing so will destroy the pump. Usually when I come across one that hasn't been changed, it is empty, full of sludge, or full of fuel, if it is full of fuel or sludge, change it again in a few hours. Whatever you put in the engine is fine as for oil, it will hold a pint or so. the drain is on bottom, level plug on side, fill plug on top.

I need to remove the power steering pump, there appears to be sometype of oil leak behind it. I think there are 2 bolts that hold the pump on. Is there any tricks to removing the pump? or can I just pull the bolts and remove the pump. Thanks very much.

You should be able to just undo the 2 bolts (and the 2 hydraulic lines going to the steering orbit motor) and remove the pump,(pump is gear driven ) there should be a single bolt holding the reservoir to the pump housing , undo this bolt and gently pull off reservoir , theres an o-ring that seals it to the housing , also you will see the filter when you remove the reservoir . I wont lie to you its a bugger to get them to stop leaking, but good luck !

Just the 2 bolts. If it were me, I would re-seal the pump while I was at it. The seal kits are like $30 from case, and $10 aftermarket.

If it's the same minmec Ford used, it will have 1/2 inch drain and level plugs and 15/16 fill plug on top. Re fill with engine oil. Threads are aluminum so take it easy.
