,, cost 275 for repairs , ,starter drive shattered and fell into pieces into the flywheel cavity ,, hope I can fish them all out ,.the armature was bent, the bushings trasht ,casing and brushes in fine shape ,.any ideas and advice on how to get the parts out offlywheel housing of a power shift 1070.?..

Unless you split the tractor you will never get all the broken parts out. I have split tractors for other reasons and many times find parts from starter and torque limiter failures. You could take it apart to clean up pieces, but I do not know anyone that ever went through the work because of a starter failure, Rod.

1370rod is right =there was a 970 that did that 30 years ago I was told about =the Broken part Got into the Presure Plate [8 speed ]And Bent the Crankshaft found that after the Rear seal started Leaking - the owner forgot to keep the OIL Checked =locked it up /The Dealer Found the Crank Bent as they were going to get it Turned & found Bent.

Agree with Rod. The pieces fall out of the way and won't hurt anything. And if you were going to split it to look for them, the pieces could be behind the C-1 C-4 piston carrier.

Had an 870 that broke the starter drive last winter and used a freinds borescope to find the pieces and also found broken TL spring pieces so we split and got all pieces and fixed TL at same time, some times things work out great. JIM

got lucky everyone,,. today in good lite I was able to retrieve 3 large parts of 4 , the missing 4th piece is a single tooth of the starter drive,, oddly all the pcs. were back against the flywheel ,.. I did not notice at teardown because the weather was pretty nasty and damcold ,.. today we got to the mid 50s and melted all the snow .. hopefully the magnetic plug in the 1st cavity will capture the missing tooth soon ...
