Adjusting VAC-14 Brakes

Just got back to working on the VAC. In removing the spring anchor pin (to use in determining .020 clearance) is it okay to heat up the brake housing with a torch? Keeper pin is removed. I am afraid to hammer too hard on the anchor pin as I am afraid I'll break the housing.

It looks like I need to remove some of the newly relined brake material to achieve necessary clearance. Adjustment is at its smallest. If I remember right the pads are .16" thick.

yes I also had to sand down the new lining to get the right clearance. Hell I had to sand the lining down just to get it to fit in the drum

What did you use to sand the linings? I hate to take off any more than necessary. I have .020 on all but about the last inch of the ends.
