1370 fuel tank shut off leak

I had to shut the fuel tank off so I could clean the screen in the sediment bowl on the lift pump. Now it seems the tank is leaking around the fitting coming out of the tank. Does the tank have a nipple made onto it and is there a pipe coupling between the tank and the valve? Valve/pipe coupling move very easily, is there away to tighten this up a little? thanks chris

Finally got the online parts book to work, and it looks like the bung is an expandable type so I could give the hex/coupling a turn and this would tighten the bung up?? And/or should I have a barrel ready to catch leaking fuel?? thanks chris

hike up one side of 1370 and siphon all fuel out then make repair ,btw,, my 1070 has a nut that will titen the seal on the valve

Chris I have learned the hard way never to mess with the fittings on the bottom of the tank unless they are leaking. I remove the line going to the sediment bowl and plug the end to shut off fuel. The way to tighten a leaking bung in the base of the tank is to hold it and turn the fitting which causes the nut to compress the bung securing it tighter in the tank. The trick is to keep the bung from turning while tightening the fitting. It is difficult to do as you will find out. If I ever have the tank drained and replacing the bungs as they do crack from over tightening, beware of that. What I do is weld a small 2-3 in. handle on the washer that goes between the fitting and bung. That way I can keep that from turning while tightening the fitting which will usually keep the bung from turning. The trick is to tighten them enough that the leak stops, but not to much that you turn or damage them. Sometimes they go in great for me and other times they drive me crazy. Rod.
