Just curious, I was looking at the photo ads and there is a listing for a 37 case C. The tractor was painted red and it appears to be the original paint, I thought the 37 tractors were gray and the switch to red was not til 39. Can anyone shed light on this? thank you

I have an L and an RC in red paint.
I don't believe either are original.
Paint back in those days only lasted a few short years if left to sit outside in the elements. People were slathering another coat of paint on their tractors all the time.
When the Flambeau Red came out everyone liked it so they repainted their older tractors the same as an update. Some were done by the farmers, some by the dealers.
I've heard some dealers repainted new old stock tractors to help sell them. I've heard some dealers offered to repaint your tractor if you brought it in for an overhaul. I don't think any were done at the factory or branch warehouse level. Just my opinion. Others may argue, but explains how your paint could be red and still be applied in the early 40s so it appears to be original when in fact it's just old which is not the same.

Although it seems I did read somewhere that old stock unstyled R series were painted Flambeau Red from the factory since the old stock weren't selling well and Case wanted them sold before the styled Rs could be released and they had to match the D and LAs in color. Maybe others know for sure.
