DC head bolt

I recently put the head on my 51 DC. After running it a while I put it back in the shop to work on later. Well I walked by the other day an looked at the head an noticed the nut on the stud had water on it. After a taste test I discovered it was antifreeze. I dried it off and the next morning it was back. How is antifreeze getting on top of the nut???? What can I do to stop it? I swear I haven't been in the frig doing 12 ounce curls!!!

Antifreeze is getting through the threads of the bolt. To fix it, drain the antifreeze, remove the entire stud, and put thread sealer on the threads. There is also the possibility that the head gasket is leaking antifreeze to the head bolt. Did you use any gasket sealer on the head gasket? Copper washer under the nut, and thread sealer on the nut should take care of it.

Did you put any copper coat or anything on gasket or put it on dry? I've done a 500D, D and SO in the last 2-3 years and luckly no issues. I put copper coat on both sides of gasket? Dick, OR.

If the DC block is anything like the SC you may have a stud that was installed to far and broke thru the block into the water jacket like this one I have I also had a small leak on mine that seeped out from under the head gasket from this hole. I will seal this one up from the inside because I have the sleeves out already. Good luck with it Byron.

Just from looking at the remaining threads on the nut I looks like it was a short stud or the right one installed thru the block.
