VAC eagle hitch arms

Looking at the eagle hitch arms on my latest VAC-14 I noticed a difference as compared to my another VAC-14. Both are 54's but one is a welded assembly and the other is bolted and can rotate about 20 deg at what I call the talon as shown in the photo. Reviewing the parts book I only found one version but when looking tractors these are two different designs. I thought that maybe someone simply welded the talon in place for some reason but as you can see the arms are really different. What do the experts think about this

First picture is a VTA-3300 arm. Second is a VTA-2863. They both show the same applications but my guess is the welded style was offered as an option and replacement late in the series due to the breakage problem of the design with the bolt. If you think about it, the pulling force of the tractor is carried by the strength of two 3/8" bolts. They will act like a shear pin when you hit a rock or root with an implement. Then you put in a stronger bolt and it rips the side out of the arm. I have several sets here that have many different styles or reinforcement added to the arm after they were pulled apart. Was a weak link in an otherwise very nice tractor. Lee

It used a different spring and had a hook on the end that went in the hole. If you check the arm it should be hollow at that point. Lee
