Someone somewhere said that when someone dies a library burns. Aren't we fortunate that so much of Dave's research and knowledge has been published and documented for all of us to benefit from. We should be thankful that

Dave's thorough technical articles in the early years of the clubs are fantastic, and deserve to be reprinted. His exhaustive journeys into, generators, starter motors, ignition systems, and other systems vital to our tractor understanding are w/o parallel. I, like Dave, taught ag diesel at vocational levels and when I started seeing his articles in Old Abe's News there was nothing like them for explaining the basics. He understood, and his teaching reflected it, that you cannot repair something properly by exchanging parts. You must understand HOW things work. If you fail to comprehend the basic physics that make a carb work, you're doomed to frustration. Reading a piece above on the gentlemen struggling to make the COM work on his older backhoe is a prime example. If you don't understand these systems you will never receive satisfactory service from older eqpt. Dave was a treasure and a true blessing to our ag community. He is missed.

I agree he was a great knowledgeable fellow. He came to my place in Montana few years ago could tell his health was failing. He wes in Montana to visit his daughter in Kalispel Mt.

Yes, I heard that he had passed. But he will always be with us in "Full Steam Ahead"

Very well said. As my Dad would say when a problem arose, and took some real thought, "Lets have a cup of coffee".
