VAC-14 Purchase

Well I now have my 6th tractor as of today. I purchased a 54 VAC-14 what I believe to be a original narrow version. Went and looked it over this afternoon. Family had it for some 35 years and I gave them $600 for the old girl. Monday I will request the build sheet Monday and see if this tractor was built this way or not. The main thing for me is it has really straight tin. The only metal I will need it the "INSTRUMENT PANEL ASSEMBLY" (VTA3404). So if someone has a un-rusted one let me know.

i will contact Joan at CNH in the documents department. Her number is 1-800-635-4913.
The cost has been 5 dollars to get a copy sent.

My nephew has a VAC 14 with norrow front, but it has the tall rubber in rear. Does your engine and ID tag have matching numbers?

engines on VAC's are not stamped with the tractor serial numbers. the engine on this VAC is stamped 72-F021 which I believe to be correct for a 54 VAC tractor

Nice looking tractor !!!! Straight tin and factory top link !!! I have been looking for a parts manual and owners manual for VAC-14 cultivators with no luck. Nick

Kevsdodge, where are you located? That tractor was listed on a mid-Michigan craigslist add, so you must not be too far from me. I am interested in getting some measurements from an intact VAC-14 under exhaust so that I can have one made for my tractor. My email is open.

That is very nice sheet metal!!! I have a VAC-14 as well, but it has the standard wide front. It had a loader on it sometime in it's life so the front axle has repairs. Local tractor salvage yard has a good wide front but they want too much. My tractor has the drop down exhaust but is using mostly flex exhaust pipe between the muffler and the turned down piping on the manifold. I need the hood latch and could use a new grill, but first I will rebuild the carb, then it should be ready to use without
looking pretty. Didn't have a eagle hitch when I bought it so I found one that I added. It had a rear end oil leak. So a year ago, I split the rear gear housing at rear of the torque tube/shift housing and replaced the gasket. No more leaks.

Mine leaks on top of the housing where the torque tube connects to the transmission. Sounds like the same situation as yours. Any tricks to splitting the tractor?

Nothing special to splitting it, but in the area that I needed to replace the gasket, there was a bolt that I didn't see hidden underneath the rear end. I couldn't figure out why it wouldn't just roll apart.
Good luck,
