Case 900 gears

Just had a Case 900 delivered today, nice old tractor but Im not sure about gears and havent had the time to study before darkness fell. It seems as if the gear lever goes from right to left to select forward and backwards but I couldnt seem to find higher and lower gearing. Can someone give me a short explanation as I need to get this along the road a bit faster than I managed today.

That thing has a sliding gearshift.Center the gearshift right to left and then push the handle front to back. You should feel it hit detents and then you go right to left. There should be a pointer on the cast cradle showing the gear pattern and what gear you are in.

Road gear (6th): Move shifter all the way ahead, then push down to the right.
