Nice Original Center Exhaust SC for sale

Hey all. Was nosing around on Craigslist and found this nice original '41 SC Centerline. Looks to be in excellent shape, minus the motor being locked up. Has good tires, and it looks like it still has one of the chrome strips on the hood. Figured I would post it up here to try to save it from a scrap yard! Not many of the center exhaust SC's around. If I had the space and the money, I would definitely snatch it up!

I wonder if that tractor was restored and then forgotten? It looks pretty clean for a tractor that old. Sure hope someone rescues it. It would be a shame if it went to a scraper.
 
Anybody planning a trip from Southeast MN to the Northwest part of the state? Looks like a nice unit. Would love to have it if I could get some transportation at a reasonable price.

Ken, or anyone else that can straighten me out on this question.

According to my info (may be incorrect), centerline SC's were made only in the first year of production, or partial first year of production. Also info states that the first year SC's had no stiffening ribs along the lower block sides. That great looking 41 that is for sale has the centerline int/exh, but also stiffening ribs along the sides. Any comments or is it my info is incorrect??? Thanks.

Since the change was displayed throughout production of the '41, there seems to be some mis-match of these tractors, which makes them all the more interesting. I myself have a early ribbed block SC with center exhaust and "short skirt" hood. I also have the shallow fenders and 3-spoke steering wheel. The earliest of the SC's had the smooth block, "long skirt" hood, larger fenders, along with a lot of other minor changes. These are the most notable. I have seen SC's with short skirt hoods and smooth blocks, ribbed blocks and long-skirt hoods... I think it is just a matter of case phasing out one series of parts and moving forward with another. If they had something sitting on the assembly line that was "discontinued", they used it. There are specific serial number cutoffs for each part, but I have found that they don't always align with what the tractor is actually equipped with.

The first tractor I ever owned was a early center exhaust SC that had the smooth block, and large fenders. I paid $150.00 for it. It was painted the Gray color Case used on the earlier models. I traded it off on a 54 VAC14 that had a wore out hydraulic pump. I only used these tractor for hauling firewood.

I had a close call with the SC while out cutting firewood. I had just finished cutting up part of a hickory tree, and had the split chunks loaded on the old MM manure spreader I used as a wood trailer. I couldn't afford a good battery for the tractor, so I usually started it with the crank. This is one of the times I couldn't get it to fire up with the crank. I wanted to get home in time for dinner, so I thought I could roll start it. The tractor wasn't sitting on the down hill far enough to start down on it's own. I unhooked the trailer and started pushing on one of the hind wheels to get it started down the hill. I knew that once the tractor got started down the hill I wouldn't be able to grind it into gear while it was moving, so I already had it in high gear. So here I was, all 140 pounds of me, and one poorly fitted prosthetic leg, pushing on that old pig to get it started rolling down a steep hill. When it got it going pretty good I hopped up on the tractor hitch and shoved the clutch in. It started up right away with the throttle about two thirds open. I tried to climb up onto the seat, but my foot slipped off the draw bar. The tractor drug me a ways while I had a good hold of the back of the seat all the while gaining speed for the bottom of the hill with a deep ditch waiting to ruin my whole day. I got up on the tractor, pulled the clutch, and mashed down on the one good brake to slow it down. I got it to slide to a stop long before I got to the ditch. Never gave much thought to what might had happened if I didn't get the tractor stopped. I was hungry and wanted to get home so I could get something to eat.
