My neighbor just picked up this tractor.
Got it running and driving.
We know next to nothing about it!

cannot see enough of it to say for sure what year but they were made 1958 and 1959, rated 54 hp, LP, gasoline or dsl versions, that one is a row crop model, good tractors, always let the clutch out at a idle then throttle up

It's a diesel.
PTO is always spinning. Can that be adjusted to stop?
Or, is it a big job?

Yours is a late 800. Only the last ones had the inline Pump & Radiator cap extending thru the hood. I can't see what you are hooking up to the Eagle Hitch, but hooking the top link on top like you have it is dangerous. Only meant for very light loads, such as a sickle bar mower. It is possible to bust the whole top of that housing out. The PTO has a break, but what usually happens is that over time, the plates get warped, causing dragging, and wearing out the brake. Keep the Ether can away.
 
the pto lever needs locked down to stop it, there is a yoke to adjust on the lever linkage, make it longer for more brake pressure,
 
We just hooked up my York rake.
Used the top link to transport it over to his place then disconnected it and dragged the rake with the two lift arms.
Is the Eagle hitch made to a different spec than class one hitches?

I wasn't there when he got it running.
But we both have other diesels. So we know not to use ether!
As it is, it starts fairly easily. Missing the air cleaner assembly though! I saw one on EBay for $44. I'll tell him to buy it!
When I set the PTO brake lever forward, I can see it gyrating like its riding on warped plates. Should I adjust it anyway?
I don't like seeing that PTO spinning uncovered. They did not have a cover for them?

it should have a lock to hold it down,, is it gone? if you can push down on it a bit more and it stops yes try adjusting it, if it will not stop do not force it, yes they had a heavy cast cover the went over the pto shaft and that gave you a correct place to hook the top link too, if you hook above the pto it is the wrong geometry and the implement will start to raise then tip down in back the more you raise the arms

Yes, the Eagle has a different geometry than a standard 3 point. You really need to fabricate a top link mount that fits on the 4 bolts surrounding the PTO shaft. Weld one up out of angle or something. Makes most standard 3 point stuff work pretty good. Finding an original Case pto cover would be an expensive operation and they weren't made to let you use the PTO and the top link.

Correct me if I'm wrong but it sure looks like an early 830 to me.........cast iron steps, wide black decal, short hood chrome. Can't see the oil filter housing but if it's horizontal its likely 30 series. Single stick shifter with big knob with engraved gear pattern is almost always 830 around us. Anybody see anything I'm missing?
 
late 800b's like his have the cast iron steps,, I am betting he has a serial tag is why he calls it a 801 and not a 800B,, just a guess

I just went over and took a look for the serial tag.
Seems to say 831 on top and a seven digit number under that.
Oil filter is a horizontal canister.
The step on the back is a welder /fabricated item.
The previous owner passed away eight years ago.
So, can't ask him.
This tractor has been painted over two or three times.
At least two sets of decals.
If it is an 831 what year would that be?

Pretty much like what I welded up. It will make the Eagle much more like a standard 3pt as far as lift arc goes.
 
Bill: That is a good start, but my fear would be, that all the pull is on the 2 top bolts. Whereas, the original bracket, because of it's design, spread the pull out on all 4.
